2010 Grant RecipientsThe Program Development Assistance Grants have been awarded for 2010; it was a very difficult decision, as there were many deserving applicants.
The following camps will receive a $750.00 grant to support the development of their program initiatives.
Generations: An exploration of Jewish Immigration Through Art
Kadimah staff will lead the children to self-discovery and Jewish identity building through craft and art, focusing on their genealogy- tracing back their roots through Pier 21.
Pier 21 and Kadimah staff would develop and run two workshops with the participants, exploring themes of Jewish immigration, ancestry and community.
Sky's-The-Limit High Ropes Course
A new recreation feature that could be utilized for all ages year round for camps, retreats, rentals and outdoor education for local schools.
It featuresa 50' Climbing Tower, 300' two person zip line, five challenge initiatives suspended 30' above ground.
Johnston Christian Park (J.C.P)
Challenge Course and Initiatives Training
Two experienced staff will receive specific, professional training on low ropes and initiatives activites. These two staff will help develop a Staff Users Manual to promote correct and safe practices for summer program staff.
These two staff members will also work in this area during the summer and do In-Service work with the JCP staff this summer and in the summers that follow.
PEI Children's Camp
Leader in Training Program
A two year LIT program for teens aged 15-16. The first year will focus on leadership development, community building, skill development such as programming and leading activities.
The second year will be largely focused on learning how to be a great camp counsellor and the skills and attitude needed. This will be acheived in a hands-on-way through a mentoring program and job shadowing.
These camps are next eligible to apply for Program Development Assistance Grants in 2013.
