CANS Program Development Assistance Grants

For a list of camps who were awarded Program Development Assistance Grants for 2010 go to our 2010 Grant Recipients page.

Purpose: To help member camps in NS and PEI fund new camp programs OR special, one-time-only staff training in new program areas. The aim is to have the Camping Association SHARE in the cost of new programming ideas, NOT fund them in total.

Number of Grants Available in 2010: Maximum of four (4) grants of $750 per application.

Eligibility: The camp must be a current member of the Camping Association and should not have received a Program Development Assistance Grant in the past three years (for example, a camp receiving a grant in 2010 would not be eligible to re-apply until 2013).

If you applied in 2009 and were unsuccessful, you can certainly apply again this year. Camps are also asked to send in only one application per camp per year.

Camps should make sure their annual members dues are paid before (or, at least, at the same time as when) they send in their grant application form.

Examples of new program or proposal ideas:

Begin a canoe program (and needs to purchase canoes, PFD, and other equipment)
Send 2-3 experienced staff canoe "teachers" to a Canoe Kayak flat water instructors' course
Begin an archery program
Build a new basketball court
Substantially add to or create a resource library on co-operative games and crafts
Establish a new LIT or CIT program (and have start-up and training costs)
Establish a low ropes course
Create a new religious education program
Undertake training for new safety issues

Or hundreds of other possibilities!

Deadline for 2010: Postmarked or emailed by April 1, 2010
